Why The Volunteer System Doesn’t Work… Picking & Choosing

This is just one of many examples. This morning at 8:42 Stamford Fire & Rescue (SFRD) units and the Turn of River Fire Department (TORFD) were dispatched to a report of an activated fire alarm in the TORFD Fire District.  The area where the incident took place is known to the SFRD as a water supply problem area.  This means, that in the event of a real fire, it will take time and person-power to establish a water supply to supplement the tank water on the first due apparatus. SFRD Engines 6 and 8 responded to the incident with their normal full crews of 4 and 3.  A Command vehicle with two personnel was also sent from Downtown. Due to the remote location of the incident, Engine 8 arrived about 8 minutes after the call was dispatched.  On investigation, it was determined that smoke from a pot, left on the stove earlier in the AM,  had activated the alarm.
